Two teenagers from Bickley Park Cricket Club have been selected for the 2015-16 Kent Cricket Academy squad.

Batsman Alex Moen and wicketkeeper Sam Smith, both aged 15, will receive specialist coaching and support at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Moen averaged 36 in five innings alongside gloveman Smith who appeared six times for Bickley Park in 2015 as they were relegated from the Shepherd Neame First Division.

Moen played for Kent’s Under 17 side last summer and won the George Pope Memorial Cup for Kent’s best under-15 prospect.

Gloveman Smith joins second year scholar and fellow wicketkeeper Oliver Robinson, who attends Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar and plays club cricket for Bexley.

The Academy has produced England internationals Joe Denly, Lydia Greenway, Sam Billings and Natasha Farrant, with a total of 24 former scholars having graduated to the Kent senior first team in 12 years.

Willis, a former Kent wicketkeeper himself, said: “We have some excellent age-group coaches looking out for the best emerging talent in Kent and working hard to develop their technique.

“The attitude and application of the players is as important as their skills at this stage so they can take advantage of the support and guidance we provide at the Academy.”

Coaches include former Kent and England stars Mark Ealham and Min Patel as well as invaluable input from current players such as James Tredwell.
