Westcombe Park began the new season with a 16-6 away success at newly-promoted Bracknell.

It was a dour encounter, as both sides struggled to settle, mistakes were made and a high penalty count ensured it would be a stop-start affair.

Defences dominated and any attacking movement was quickly thwarted.

Luke Hemming opened with a penalty kick for the home team, but Combe's debutant James Cameron replied with two efforts for a half-time score of 3-6.

The Orpington side upped the tempo at the restart with another penalty for Cameron, matched by a second effort from Hemming.

Into the last quarter Combe finally broke free with debutant Ant Hitchcock squeezing in at the corner for the only try of the game.

Cameron kicked the touchline conversion to complete the scoring and get Westcombe Park off to a winning start.
