After fourteen hard fought weeks of competitive pool, every game in the South London & Kent Pool Alliance Elite League had something to play for.

Bellegrove went into the final week against third placed Eltham Terrace Club A just one point ahead of Hotshots and had been battling with them for top spot all season.

It wasn't going to be easy for Hotshots either, as they were playing O'Connors in fourth.

It was a close game at the Bellegrove with the home side winning 9-6 in frames but it's the set score that counts and Bellegrove took that too by 3 sets to 0 to give them maximum points and the championship.

Craig Mallinder, who has been pretty consistent all season was the inspiration behind this victory by winning all three of his frames.

Even if Bellegrove had dropped points, Hotshots would have fell at the final hurdle, going down, 2-1 and 8-7 to O'Connors.

The first set went to O'Connors but only just, by 3 frames to 2, although Hotshots battled for their lives and won the second set, 4-1.

By the time the third set came round word must have got through that Bellegrove were in a commanding position, as O'Connors took the final set by the same 4-1 score line.

It was a massive game at the Pickwick where they took on Foots Cray Social Club Rugrats in a winner takes all relegation battle.

Just like the top two, Pickwick were just one point ahead of their opponents going into the match with both sides facing the prospect of relegation for the first time.

Unfortunately the game didn't live up to its billing, as Pickwick wrapped it up within eight frames, taking the first set 4-1 and winning the first three frames of the second for an unassailable lead.

Pickwick went on to win five of the next seven frames for an impressive, 3-0 and 12-3 victory.

It was a thoroughly professional performance, with Pickwick fudging their way to safety.

Many of the Pickwick players achieved two wins out of two as the skipper opted for squad rotation once relegation was avoided.

The only player to come out with any credit for Rugrats was Ian Cruwys, who won all three of their frames.

The bottom two faced each other and despite both already being relegated, Eltham Terrace Rovers and Eltham Terrace Rack Pack were fighting for the wooden spoon.

Rack Pack had been bottom all season and had only beaten Rovers, who were winless.

You could tell both teams were playing for pride, as the first set went two frames all, with Rack Pack Captain Steve Unwin securing the first set.

The second set was also won 3-2 by Rack Pack, which sealed the win and lifted them off the bottom for the first time this season.

Steve Unwin made it two out of two for him with the first frame of the final set.

Rovers were still playing for pride though and Ryan Francis equalised with a break and dish for his hat-trick but Chris Gaunt put Rack Pack ahead with a 7-baller.

Rovers equalised to send the set into a final frame decider, which Lee Osborn should have secured but missed an easy pot, letting Daniel O'Rourke in to clear up for the set.

The match was a lot closer than the 3-0 and 9-6 score line suggests and with each set being won 3-2 it was harsh on Rovers but exactly the same has happened to Rack Pack for the previous two weeks.

The three horse race for the SLKPA Tier Two West title was won by Royal Oak Addicks, who recovered from two losses on the bounce to beat Fox & Hounds by, 3 sets to 0 and 10 frames to five.

The damage was done in the first set, after losing the first frame, Addicks won the next four frames to take the set 4-1.

They went on to win the next two sets by three frames to 2.

Tom Wyatt was on form for Fox, winning both his frames and he was joined by Addicks' Mick Gormley but they were overshadowed by Kevin Connor, who won all three of his frames.

With the championship decided that left Bellegrove A and Glenmore Arms A to battle it out for second and the play off spot and they were playing each other.

Glenmore came out of the blocks quicker with a 5-0 whitewash in the first set, which included a break and dish by Alex Thompson.

Bellegrove battled back to win the second set, 3-2 and looked certain to win the match by taking a 2-0 lead in the final set.

However there was a lot at stake and Glenmore pulled one back before Tony Stevens tied the set with a wonderful seven ball clearance to send the match in to a final frame decider.

So the race for a chance to get into the Elite League came down to a single frame, with Dean Coppen getting his two out of two to give Glenmore the 2-1 and 10-5 victory and the the play off spot.

It was a great team performance with Stevens joining Coppen on two unbeaten frame wins and James Grant won his only frame.

Grreyhound picked themselves off the bottom by beating Eltham Terrace Nuthouse, 2-1 in sets but they had to share the points as Nuthouse won more frames, 8-7.

The first two sets were narrowly won, 3-2 by Greyhound but Nuthouse showed why they are in fourth by taking the last set 4-1.

Everyone from the Nuthouse chipped in with a frame but Craig Jones, Stephen Frampton and Shaun Shephard led the way on two out of three frame wins each, with Jones' also performing a break and dish.

SLKPA Tier Two East was already decided, with Falconwood Club crowned unbeaten champions and Plumstead Radical Club Rebels taking the play off spot.

Rebels didn't let that affect their performance as they beat Glenmore Arms 2 by 2 sets to 1 and 9 frames to 6.

They won the first two sets, 3-2 and 4-1 to seal the win before Glenmore took the final set, 3-2.

The only unbeaten player was Paul Rowlinson, who won all three of his frames.

Royal Oak hold on to third place with a 2-1 and 9-6 triumph over Bellegrove Social Club.

John Kinsville was the inspiration behind the victory with an unbeaten hat-trick.

North Heath Social Club are just behind Royal Oak after a 3-0 and 10-5 victory over bottom team Foots Cray Social Club Minions.

Its been a tough first season for Minions but they will have learned a lot and can only build from here.
