Bromley’s Nell Miller will look to take another step towards playing professionally after being selected to represent Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

A promising player, Miller has been quickly catching the eye, including the attention of Tim Henman after getting the chance to play at SW19 earlier this following her success in last year’s Road to Wimbledon competition.

Those performances have not gone unnoticed by the Team GB selectors either who have opted to include the Bromley Tennis Club star in the 44-strong team for the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia, which takes place between July 26 and August 1.

The sport of tennis has been a constant on the Olympic programme since the 1988 Games with the likes of Andy Murray, Roger Federer and the Williams sisters all adding gold medals to their title collection.

And for Bullers Wood School pupil Miller, the chance to be a part of a team in a multi-sport competition, is something she is relishing.

She said: “This will be my first time representing Great Britain.

“I’m really looking forward to it, especially part of a bigger team.

“To be able to represent the sport of tennis at a Youth Olympic Festival is something I’m really proud of.

“I’m just aiming to be the best I can be and hopefully follow in the footsteps of other people that have gone to play at the highest level.”

Miller added: “I would love to one day be a professional tennis player.

“I do a mixture of both singles and doubles although I’d say I probably prefer doubles a bit more as you get to work together and enjoy the success together.

“I’ve been watching Wimbledon closely this year, and I got to go down to Wimbledon recently as I won the Road to Wimbledon competition.

“It was great to meet Tim Henman and talk with Lindsay Davenport.”

Since Miller first picked up a racket ten years ago, she has been going from strength to strength, playing in several different places from Eastbourne to Egypt.

And with Georgia representing another destination to add to her travels, Miller would nothing more than to return with silverware around her neck.

She added: “Training has been going well, I’ve been training hard and working towards my goals. I’ve had a few competitions keeping me busy.

“I think I’m in good form.

“I’ve been playing for around ten years now. I got into it throw my sister as she was playing.

“I think the biggest competition I have ever competed was out in Egypt.

“I’ve also competed in a $50,000 Eastbourne competition.”
