Forest Hill’s Darryll Williams is off to Las Vegas this summer - provided he wins his next fight later this month.

The super-middleweight is set to be matched at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on July 18.

And if he chalks up an 11th straight win, Williams will then head to Vegas this summer with manager Mickey Helliet for a fortnight’s training.

Williams said: “This is a massive boost. I’ve always wanted to go to Las Vegas, just like every other boxer.

“I want the world to know about me, I want them to watch me sparring and ask: ‘Who is that guy ?’

“It should be a great, great experience for me and who knows where it might lead?”

He added: “I’m in a good position now.

“I’m 20th in the British rankings, I’ve won all my fights and I think the Americans will like my style.

"Ricky Hatton and Nigel Benn were the ultimate pressure fighters from the UK, but apart from them there haven't been too many British fighters who’ve taken on the Mike Tyson style the way I have.”

That style has been smoothed by trainer Alan Smith and Williams showed his improvement when he thoughtfully broke down Norbert Szekeres in five rounds to capture the vacant international masters bronze title in May.

Williams believes it was probably his best performance so far is adding more to his boxing with every fight.

“People don’t think I’m a technical fighter,” he said.

“But I study boxing and a lot of thought goes into what I did in that fight.

“I was working my jab, staying on my toes and it really threw him off when I switched stances.

“There are more tricks up my sleeve as well and I'm going to need them when I go up the levels and start fighting better opponents.”

Tom Baker last month vacated the southern area title, a belt which is one of Williams’ main targets.

“I leave all that up to manager and trainer,” the Forest Hill fighter said.

“They will know when I’m ready.”
