Bexleyheath golfer Alfie Plant enjoyed an impressive start Panmure at the 120th amateur championships last week.

The Sundridge Park and England national squad golfer stormed to the first round lead at the Scottish venue with a course record-breaking seven-under-par 63.

He eventually battled through to the last 32, where he went down by just one hole to a Swedish international.

Plant got off to a great start, birdieing his first two holes before watching his seven iron approach to the 405-yard par four third hole find the bottom of the cup.

Remarkably the 22-year-old repeated the feat on the 436-yard par four tenth, where his six iron approach also found the hole.

He also birdied the seventh and ninth holes with his only dropped shot coming at the sixth to shave two shots off the previous course record of 65 held by several players.

Plant admitted: “I’m really pleased. It’s my first course record and my personal best round as well.”

The Bexleyheath golfer has been enjoying an impressive season. Just one week before his appearance at the Panmure amateur championships Plant was the top Englishman when he placed 14th overall at the St Andrews Links Trophy.

He also finished runner-up in the Hampshire Hog and third in the Kent closed championships, a PGA event.

Plant, whose handicap is plus four, now plans to enter Q School at end of this year to see if he can get his card on European Tour or Challenge Tour.
