Gravesend’s Josh Payne continued his impressive start to the 2015 darts season by reaching his first PDC European Tour quarter-final at the Dutch Masters in Venray, Holland.
The north Kent sharp shooter had to qualify in the UK before travelling to compete in the event against many of the world’s best players, including current world number one Michael van Gerwen.
In his first match on the Venray stage Payne beat Wolverhampton’s Wayne Jones 6-3 before moving on to defeat the 2014 BDO world champion Stephen Bunting 6-4.
He then overcame former youth world champion Michael Smith 6-4 before finally falling to former world number nine and winner of the first ever PDC European Tour event Justin Pipe.
Payne’s next tournament is in a fortnight at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
