Sidcup’s Jamie Andrews could be just one victory away from securing a title shot in the UK’s premier boxing league if he can continue to build on his recent winning form.

The 27-year-old plumber is set to take on unbeaten 18-year-old prospect Hamza Akram in his next assignment on June 13 at the Queensbury Boxing League’s big night of summer action at the Copthorne Effingham Park Hotel in West Sussex.

And if Andrews can successfully navigate his way past the young star, then his next outing could see him challenge for the title.

The Sidcup boxer was last in action back in March when he edged out Gerry McCluskey on points at the Alexandra Palace to record his second straight victory since dropping down to the light middleweight division.

Andrews’ decision to campaign in the lighter division looks to have been justified after producing his best performances since joining the televised boxing series, according to former world title challenger and Queensbury promoter Ross Minter.

He said: “Andrews has looked much more competitive and I think he’s now got the confidence to mix it with the division’s other contenders.

“Jamie is very tall for the weight, which gives him an advantage over most of his opponents as he’s shown in his last two fights.

“But he’s got a big job on his hands against Akram who is very similar in height and style, so it should produce a real classic.

“If Jamie can beat Akram then there are a lot of possibilities out there for him in the division.

“It’s going to be a big night for him on June 13 when he steps through those ropes.”

Andrews’ showdown with Akram will feature on the undercard of the Queensbury Boxing League’s ‘Feel the Heat’ promotion in West Sussex.
