Liam Norwell took his first class wicket tally for the season to 30 as Kent made a shaky start replying to Gloucestershire’s 193 on the second morning of the LV=County Championship match at Bristol.

The 23-year-old seamer had Brendan Nash caught in the slips by Chris Dent for 12 and bowled Daniel Bell-Drummond for 26 during a session twice interrupted by rain.

David Payne made the initial breakthrough when Joe Denly, on four, edged a catch to wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick with the total on seven.

Left-armer Payne completed an impressive six-over opening spell from the Pavilion End with figures of one for 12.

First change Norwell looked equally threatening in claiming two for 11 from seven overs at the Ashley Down Road End to leave Kent 47 for three at one stage.

By an early lunch the visitors had progressed to 71 for four, with Fabian Cowdrey having fallen lbw to Kieran Noema-Barnett for six. Skipper Sam Northeast was 16 not out.
