TABLE TENNIS: Orpington youngster James Smith represented England at the Spanish youth open table tennis tournament.

The 13-year-old Whitgift School student played alongside Alex Ramsden and Harry Dai in the Cadet Boys’ Team event.

Smith helped Ramsden to defeat Qatari pair Abudulaziz Al-Abdulla and Nawaf Al-Malki 3-2 (12-14, 11-8, 5-11, 11-5, 11-9) on the way to an overall 3-2 success for England.

However, they were unable to advance from the group as they lost 3-0 to a strong Sweden side.

In the singles, Smith was eliminated in the group stages, while he and doubles partner Callum Morrison of Scotland lost in the last 32 of the doubles.
