Forest Hill super-middleweight Darryll Williams has got a title shot next month.

The 25-year-old fights for the vacant international masters bronze championship on manager Mickey Helliet’s show at the Camden Centre on May 16.

Williams steps up to championship level after winning his first nine fights and admitted he was thrilled.

He explained: “I’m really happy with the news, I think this fight has come at the right time for me.

“I’ve had nine fights and I’m training at a very good gym. I’m sparring good fighters who I’m learning from.

“This fight is good for me and it is good for my supporters as well, they want to see me in big fights.

“I know people want to see me do well and I can’t explain how grateful I am to all the supporters who buy tickets and cheer me on.”

Williams took an army of fans with him for his last fight, a six-round points win over Robert Blazo in February.

The May 16 Camden bout will be his first over the eight-round distance and Williams is looking forward to testing his stamina.

He explained: “The longer the fight, the more time I’ve got to break my opponents down.

“I will have to pick my shots more rather than being all over them for the whole fight, but I don’t think I will have to make too many changes to my style.

“I still want to put the pressure on and make my opponents feel uncomfortable.”

Williams has yet to learn who he will face next month, but knows victory will take him a step nearer a shot at the southern area title.

Chingford’s Tom Baker captured the vacant belt last month with a points win over Kevin Greenwood at the York Hall.

Williams watched the fight and said: "I have spoken to manager Mickey Helliet about fighting for the southern area title and he says the fight will happen when the time is right.

“It’s up to him to decide when the time is right for me.

“The super-middleweight division is tough and I’m aware of who is out there, but I’m not thinking about them and comparing myself to any of them until I have to fight them.”
