RUGBY: Dartfordians RFC has officially opened its new clubhouse extension after several years of planning and fund raising.

As well as the gym, the new building has six new changing rooms, a physio’s room and separate changing facilities for officials.

The official opening was undertaken by James Brokenshire MP, chairman of Dartfordians Community Sports Club Martin Gubby, project manager Tim Geoghegan and Dartfordians RFC chairman Jarrod Lawrence.

Mr Lawrence said: “This is a very proud day for the club and will enable increased delivery of rugby across Dartford and Bexley, the communities we serve.

“The new changing facilities will also enable a girls section to be set up and taken forward.’’

MINI MARATHON: Youngsters aged between five and 16 will take part in a mini marathon at Greenwich Park on Sunday.

Starting from the iconic bandstand, competitors will complete a fun and energetic warm up conducted by Greenwich Get Active, before making their way around the 2.62-mile circular route.

John Payne estate agents are sponsoring the run and branch manager Doug Norris explained: “This event helps to raise urgently needed funds and increase awareness of the Greenwich & Bexley Hospice, a vital organisation which supports local people living with life-limiting illnesses.

“I speak for us all at John Payne when I say we are delighted to be supporting this event and look forward to helping out on the day itself with many of our colleagues.

“The day promises to be a fun day out for the whole family, so come along, bring the kids and cheer everyone on for this very worthy cause.”

MOTORSPORT: Dartford brothers Brett and Tyler Lidsey each celebrated podium success during the opening weekend of the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Michelin Clio Cup Road Series at Rockingham.

Brett secured a brace of rostrums with top three finishes in rounds one and two of the Race Series and added a seventh place result in race three.

He ended the event fourth in the driver standings, just three points outside the coveted top three.

Notably, Brett also secured his first career pole position in Clios during the wet qualifying session.

Younger brother Tyler, who is a complete motor racing novice, joined the sister Michelin Clio Cup Road Series grid for the first time and claimed the Sport Class trophy for inexperienced racers in all three contests.

Both Brett and Tyler's cars are prepared by leading team 20Ten Racing.

There is now a lengthy break of roughly two months in the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series and Road Series calendar until rounds four and five take place at Thruxton in Hampshire in June.
