GOLF: England international Michael Saunders rewrote the history books by winning the Watson Trophy for the fourth time at home club Dartford GC.

Crowds flocked to the venue last weekend to watch a contest comprising of 45 Kent club champions.

The challenging course, where accuracy and nerves of steel are a must, was in tip top condition and helped to produce some outstanding golf.

Dartford GC captain Tony Leach said: “The course has never had so many spectators for any event, which underlined the quality and popularity of the tournament.”

Dignitaries from Kent Golf Union and England Golf were also in attendance to see Saunders show his class on the day with some spectacular golf.

He claimed the trophy for an unprecedented fourth time by one shot from Taron Donovan (Royal Blackheath GC) and Joshua Bristow (Etchinghill GC), who both shot 68.

Dan Brown (Chart Hills GC), who created an exciting finish, was fourth.

FOOTGOLF: Paul Oliver pipped Nick Iron and UK number one Ben Clarke to claim a nail-biting victory in Orpington’s second footgolf competition of the season.

With Iron and Clarke posting superlative scores of 59 (three-under-par) in overcast conditions earlier in the day, Oliver knew the task at hand.

And never one to buckle under the intense heat of competition, the nation’s number three promptly carded an 18-hole round of 58 to claim gold by a single stroke on the Kent / London border.

UK Footgolf Association regional development manager for Kent Richard Brown said: “I was on tenterhooks throughout the day in the knowledge that we may have needed to employ the countback system for the first time this year to separate the top three.”

GYMNASTICS: A member of Europa Gymnastics Club in Crayford became the English and British junior champion.

Catherine Lyons, 14, returned home from the contest with four of the five available gold medals and is the youngest gymnast selected for the Great Britain Olympics squad in Rio next year.

Meanwhile fellow Europa member Giarnni Regini-Moran, 16, won the U18 English and British championships.

The Dartford youngster helped himself to 12 titles in total, as Europa took the most titles of any club in the country at the two national championships.

KICKBOXING: A 13-year-old from Semtex Gym in Welling is set to take part in next month’s Super Fight Series at Wembley.

The event on May 15 will be the largest largest K1 event the country has ever seen with official K1 world champion Karim Daniels representing Semtex on the big day.

ATHLETICS: Bromley High School athletes swept the board at the British schools' biathlon championships at the Olympic Park this month.

Pupils from the school placed first in the U13s event (Imogen Meers - pictured above), second in the U16s (Sabrina Sinha) and third in U10s (Lily Meers), making this the fourth year in succession aBromley High girl has been a national biathlon champion. 

Earlier this month Sinha won individual and team gold as English team captain at the international schools' cross Country event in Dublin.
