The final with St James’s (Richmond) went down to penalties after neither side could be separated at full-time.

In the end it was the west Londoners who prevailed in the penalty shootout, although Baring’s coach Colleen Jennings was still proud of her team’s efforts.

She said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the school. It’s a very talented team, they have been developing together for the past six years and they play off each other really well.

“No-one likes penalties, no matter how much experience you’ve got, but it has been a great day.”

Bexley’s young competitors were represented by Cleeve Park School (below) in the boccia competition and took bronze.

DRAGON BOATING: Bromley residents Sarah McBride and Peter Li have been selected to represent Great Britain in the senior crew at the IDBF dragon boat World championship in Canada.

The contest will take place in August, with the opening ceremony planned for Niagara Falls.

Battling hazardous conditions and gusts of up to 45mph, competition for a place on the team was fierce, with time trials of 375m and 750m and a series of fitness tests.

Both of the Bromley duo are both members of Thames Dragon Boat Club, who train at the London Regatta Centre at Royal Albert Dock.

McBride only took up the sport in 2013 but has taken to it like a duck to water, although this will be her first time representing GB.

A standard dragon boat crew consists of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a helm.

The senior crew is open to any paddler over the age of 40.

Competition distances at the world championships will be over 200m, 500m, 1,000m and 2,000m.
