BOXING: Sidcup fighter Jimmy Roe enjoyed victory in the pre quarter-finals of the national junior ABA champion ships with an impressive win over Eastern counties champion Harry Cornwell by third round stoppage.

Last week he won the London junior ABA championships with victory over last year’s national champion Billy Chandler from Romford.

This was Roe’s fourth consecutive London title and he will now box next week in the national quarter finals.

The Fisher ABC member now has his eyes set on a second national title and an opportunity to box for England again.

ATHLETICS: Upper Sixth Bromley High School student Anna Myers became U20 Kent cross country league champion last month.

She said: “I had competed in all four races, at Swanley Park (twice), Tonbridge and Sparrows Den.

“I won the U20 race each time making me overall U20 Kent champion.

“The U20 Blackheath & Bromley girls also won as a team, winning a large gold trophy.”

Meanwhile, fellow Bromly High pupil Sabrina Sinha triumphed at the U17 inter-counties championships in Birmingham on Sunday.

Having won the UK inter-counties U13 titles in 2012 and in 2014, the pressure was on to be successful again in the U17 age group,  even though she is a year out of age, something she managed to achieve.

TAEKWONDO: Students from Tan’Gun Taekwondo Academy attended the British championships in Crawley.

Tan’Gun Taekwondo Academy has in the past been noted for its high level of tuition. To date, they have had seven members accepted onto Team GB.

After a tough contest, they won silver in the junior male team event, narrowly missing out the coveted gold medal and a bronze was won in the Peewee contest.

Although not all players won a podium finish, they all ranked within the top 12 in the country.

The icing on the cake came a few days later when a letter arrived for nine-year-old Lewis Plummer and Harvey Perkins, 10, announcing their invitation to join the British team.

Academy head instructor David Venkatachellum said: “What great weekend.

“I’m very proud of the Tan’Gun team and especially so of all the individual achievements made by our students”

FOOTBALL: Gravesham Girls & Ladies U10s surrendered a 1-0 interval lead and went down 4-1 at the hands of  Ridgewaye.

The U11s were well beaten 3-0 by Junior Reds, while Brooke Hutson (2) and Megan Ward secured a 3-1 success for the U12s against Ridgewaye.

It was a memorable day for U15s skipper Abby Hancock whose hat-trick inflicted a 4-1 rout on Castle Colts.

But there was no such joy for the U16s, well beaten 4-0 at Barming.

Ellie Amodio’s late strike was enough to edge the U18s a 1-0 triumph over Bearsted.
