Westcombe Park enjoyed a 29-17 home win over Amersham & Chiltern on Saturday, writes Mike Attewell.

A scrappy start gave way to an eight-try bonanza, which belied the appalling conditions of wind and rain, with two sides producing a surprisingly entertaining game.

Combe were the first to break the deadlock with tries from Lee Covington and Bryan Young.

Paul Humphries converted one as the Orpington side threatened to open a gulf.

However, Amersham soon hit back with Joe Winpenny going over, but Covington’s second try restored the balance just two minutes later.

George Bartlett reduced the gap to17-10 before the interval with a well-taken try.

Amersham started the second half well and within three minutes were level as Andy Zair’s effort was converted by Joe Butler.

Combe were suddenly under the cosh until Young scored his second, converted by Humphries.

The hosts then played the rest of the game in the right areas and on the hour Josh Penny completed the scoring to seal an entertaining victory.

Westcombe Park travel to Suffolk this weekend for a clash with Bury St Edmunds.

Beckenham remain mid-table in London Two SE after they were edged out 15-10 at Maidstone.

A solitary unconverted try was enough to secure Bromley a 5-0 success at Lewes in London Three SE.

That result keeps Bromley third, closing the gap to 11 points on second-placed Dartfordians after they were beaten 15-3 on the road at Heathfield & Waldron.

In the same division, Old Dunstonians were too hot to handle for Pulborough in a 24-6 win.

Beccehamian lost ground in the Kent One promotion chase as they were defeated 19-17 at Old Gravesendians.

Foots Cray stay top of Kent Two thanks to a 13-10 home success over New Ash Green.
