Combe came off second best to local rivals TJs despite scoring three tries to two in reply.

They were made to pay as the visitors’ full-back Luke Giles stroked over four penalties and one conversion to add to the tries from James Grasby and Hugo Watson that had caught Combe napping.

It was always close and for the main part defences dominated.

Combe’s James Sheppard scored twice, and Lee Covington had one try, all from close range. Iain Gordon added one conversion.

In a pulsating finish, Combe pounded the visitors’ line in the closing minutes but were unable to make the breakthrough, as the TJs’ line held firm.
