RUGBY UNION: West Wickham-based rugby club Beccehamian will be officially unveiling their new floodlights on Halloween.

Special guests attending the opening and switch on include 2003 England World Cup winner Jason Leonard OBE, current RFU President Jonathan Dance and officials from the Kent RFU.

Inaugural floodlit matches will feature teams from the Beccs mini and youth sections. 

Everyone from the club, supporters and local community are invite to attend from 7pm for food, refreshments and to share in the enjoyment of an exciting new chapter in the club’s 80-year history.

Beccs’ senior first XV currently sit top of Kent League, while Beccs’ Ladies are second in the women’ NC SE2. M

More importantly, the new floodlights will provide a lasting legacy for the club’s thriving minis and youth set up which caters for 350 children aged from three to 17 every weekend.

FOOTBALL: Gravesham Girls & Ladies FC have been awarded the win the Kent FA respect and fair play award.

Club chairman Reuben Joseph explained: “We encourage girls of all abilities to take part in football and while being as competitive as possible, we are always pleased to congratulate our opponents for their efforts.

“The Kent FA award is a highlight of our 2013/14 season adding to the winning of the Kent County Cup at U14s and league and cup doubles for our U16 team.

“We hope to continue growing as a club and I feel that this award will help us to attract more players in the future.”

Last weekend the club’s U16s came from two goals down to pick up a 4-2 success over  Thanet Colts  thanks to strikes from Kimberley Baldock, Megan Taylor, Roisin Fuller and Morgan Wyman.

GOLF: Biggin Hill’s Craig Sutherland fought off strong competition to win the TP Tour’s order of merit.

The head professional at Cherry Lodge Golf Club was top of the table going into the tour’s championship event at Walton Heath Golf Club.

In windy conditions, Sutherland posted a solid score of 73 in a competitive 60-strong field, which included several European Tour, Challenge Tour and Senior Tour players.

This secured him a further 100 points, enough to win the title and an expenses-paid spot in the AfrAsia Masters, taking place at the Anahita golf course in Mauritius in December 2014.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have won the order of merit, especially given that the TP Tour events regularly feature full-time tour professionals,” said Sutherland.

“What a fantastic prize and now I’ll be teeing off in the AfrAsia Masters in Mauritius. I’m really looking forward to playing in such a stunning location and hopefully getting into contention for the trophy.”
