The British Touring Car Championship goes down to the wire at Brands Hatch this weekend as Colin Turkington and Jason Plato go head-to-head for British car racing’s biggest prize with three races on the famous Grand Prix circuit.

While Turkington (BMW) has a 50-point advantage, Plato (MG) took two victories in the penultimate round’s three races at Silverstone and has a fantastic record at the Kent circuit.

In 2009 Plato almost denied Turkington his first title by winning all three races, and last year he caused another sensation by coming within an ace of stealing the title from Andrew Jordan (Honda).

With 67 points up for grabs at Brands Hatch, Plato is ready for another spectacular performance.

He said: “The approach is to be as fast and committed as possible and leave no stone unturned in trying to win races.

“Simply put, the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is a drivers’ track. I love it.”
Turkington, who races for the eBay Motors team, said: "As we all thought, it's going to go down to the wire.

“We've put ourselves in the best possible position going into Brands, we just need another weekend where things go our way.”

The BTCC is booming, with seven former champions in the field and a record grid of 31 cars providing 10 different winners this year.

Potential winners next weekend include Mat Jackson (Ford), who has won two races this season with Wrotham-based Airwaves Racing.

Immediately after the final race of the day, the new champion will be crowned at a presentation ceremony on the grid, for which the start/finish straight will be opened to spectators.

A packed support bill will also see titles decided in the Renault UK Clio Cup, where Tunbridge Wells’ Mike Bushell is the championship leader, Ginetta Juniors, where Wrotham’s Jack Mitchell is favourite for honours, and the Ginetta GT Supercup, which Whyteleaf’s Charlie Robertson is aiming to win.

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB and Formula Ford GB championships will also go down to the wire at Brands Hatch.

Spectators can see all of the action on giant TV screens, take part in a free pit walk and autograph session, and enjoy a Wildcat aerobatic team display.

Other off-track entertainment includes a trade village, funfair and free children's adventure playground.

Tickets for the BTCC finale on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on Saturday and Sunday are available from £26, with free entry for children aged 12 and under.
