Westcombe Park began the new season with a display of positive, running rugby which blew away Guernsey 37-7, writes Mike Attewell.
A Trent Nattrass try and an Iain Gordan penalty gave Combe an early lead.
However, a jinking run from scrum-half Mal Barnes, with points added by Sam Whitehead, closed the gap.
In fact, it took two try-saving tackles, notably from Brian Young, and some dogged defence for Combe to reach the interval leading by the single point.
The second half was a battle for supremacy, but then in short order full-back Casey Stone and fly-half Gordan added tries, with Gordan kicking a conversion and a penalty for a healthy Combe lead.
Further tries from Natrass and Young, with more points added by Gordan, gave Combe their best start for many a year.
