Forest Hill’s Darryll Williams maintained his unbeaten record with a points victory against Danny Brown on Saturday - but believes he could have done even better.

The super middleweight lived up to his 'Ferocious' nickname and landed an impressive combination of body-shots to down his opponent in the second round before continuing to claim his seventh successive win.

However, Williams believes he let his frustration get the better of him after entering the ring above his targeted weight.

He said: “I let my anger get the better of me. I’m very self-critical and I know that I could have done better.

“I know I'm still young and early into my career, but the standards I set myself are far beyond what I showed on Saturday night.

“Of course I'm pleased to get the win and be able to give that to everyone who's supported me.

“But I don’t kill myself in training to just get through fights, I’m a powerful and vicious puncher and I always go for the knock-out.”

Williams added: “Danny had only been KO'd three times out of his 21 fights, and I managed to get him down in the second round.

“If I hadn’t lost my focus I’ve no doubt I would have got him out of there a lot sooner.

“Everyone else seemed to like the fight, though, and I managed to put together some good head and body moves.

“But I know I can do better.”

The Forest Hill boxer had marked the night as his return to action following a year out with ligament damage to his right hand.

Victory on Mickey Helliet's Final Frontier card in front of four-time world champion Ricky Hatton, who was watching on from ringside, brings Williams' record to 7 (1)-0-0 in the professional ranks.

Despite believing that he could have done better, Williams was pleased to have made the step-up and gain victory against the experienced southpaw - and claims Brown was his strongest opponent yet.

He said: “I’m pleased to be back and competing at this level.

“Danny has been my toughest opponent yet.

“He tried to make it awkward for me, but I trained well for it and caught him with some good combinations.

“You only have to look at his record of who he’s fought -  he hasn’t had it easy.”

Williams added: “We had a joke after the fight, but he’s a good guy and he gave me a great fight.

“I’m now keen to get back in the gym and begin training for my next fight.

“I’ll be looking to step it up another level again and continue to push myself.

“A title challenge isn’t too far away.”
