A familiar face from Dartford will be competing in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this month.

Scott Rider, a PE teacher at Portland Place School in Westminster, is set to represent England for the third consecutive time in the games having competed in Melbourne (2006) and Delhi (2010).

The 36-year-old also competed in the bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Olympics and will now be looking to add to his sporting honours as he goes head-to-head with the Commonwealth nations’ elite when the contest gets underway on July 23.

He said: “I feel very proud and privileged to be representing my country at the Commonwealth Games.

“I have received fantastic support from the school, everyone has been right behind me.”

Rider added: “Hopefully I will have some silverware to show the students when we return in September.

“I am so excited to put months of training into action.

“We have some great medal contenders and Team England is all set for another year of sport to remember.”
