WESTCOMBE Park bounced back after last week’s disappointing defeat at Basingstoke with a well deserved 24-0 home win over Guernsey at Goddington Dene.

In a determined and spirited display, Combe kept a watertight defence and made sure they took their chances when presented with them.

Combe were 14-0 up after quarter of an hour playing with the elements thanks to an opening try by Thibaud Calohard from a lineout steal and then an interception on halfway by Bryan Young with a run to the posts.

Both tries were converted by Iain Gordon.

At half-time 14-0 may not have seemed enough to defend going into the second period, but the weather eased, the visitors had two yellow cards and Combe were growing in confidence.

An early penalty for Gordon after the restart saw the hosts go further ahead.

Despite the score, Guernsey were defending well but into the last quarter Combe pressure told as the visitor’s clearance rebounded to debutant Ben Faurie to collect and scamper in for the Orpington side’s third try.

Gordon added the extras.

This weekend sees Westcombe Park travel to Bury St Edmunds.
