CAMBRIDGE Harriers duo Tobi Adeniyi and Sabrina Sinha collected gold medals at the National Schools championships in Birmingham.

Twelve of the club’s young athletes qualified for the National Schools championships in Birmingham this year.

On day one Adeniyi flew nearly a foot beyond his previous pb and annihilated the rest of the field in the Under 17 Men’s Long Jump with a leap that measured 7.36m and now ranks him 6th on the UK all-time list. His winning margin was 51cm.

Sinha did pretty much the same thing the following day in the U15 girls' 1,500m, front running the race from the start she won by over 60m to rapturous applause from all around the stadium.

Her time of 4.24.62 placed her third on the UK all-time list.

Vera Chinedu added to the club’s medal haul in the U15 girls' 100m, recovering from a poor start she pulled the field back as the race went on finally finishing third in 12.46, the same time as the athlete who was second.

As she still has another year in the age group, she has promised to come back next year to try and take the crown.

Divine Oladipo (U15 girls shot put) threw a pb of 10.92m (previous best 10.02m) but just missed out on the medals by six cm, while in the U19 category 100m Ruth Onyekwe was 0.03 outside the medals taking 4th place with 12.22

Club athletes were chosen to captain both the Kent and London teams.

Joe Berth Jones led the Kent team and qualified for the U19 boys' 200m semi-finals after running 22.24s in the heats, but had to bow out in the semis with a run timed at 22.52s.

Darryl Nieta captained the London team but a nagging hamstring problem meant he was unable to start in the 100m.

Renee Ross Gordon took fourth in the heats of the U17 200m but was unable to progress to the final, whilw Shakina George Lawal never recovered from a poor start in the U17 100m and had to exit with a time of 12.9s.

In the field Denton Conteh placed eighth in the U19 triple jump with 13.47m.

Tobi Ogumjimii couldn’t recapture his previous form and was disappointed with 5.84m and 17th place in the U17 long jump.
