ADAM Gemili continued his build up for the European U23 Championships in Finland with his fastest legal 100m of the year.

Competing in the Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic, the Blackheath & Bromley Harriers athlete timed 10.19s into a -0.5 metre per second headwind to finish fourth in his race.

Gemili had raced the 100m just 10 minutes earlier, but the athletes did not hear the recall gun and both the B&B Harrier and Jamaica’s Asafa Powell ran the whole distance, only to discover there had been a false start.

Others in the race did not do the full distance before pulling up, leaving Gemili to reflect his 10.19s effort could potentially have been even quicker.

Dina Asher Smith set a new personal best for the 100m at the Mannheim international meeting in Germany.

Her time of 11.38s into a mild headwind moves her to top of the UK U20 rankings and is also a new club junior record.

James Alaka ran a season's best of 20.95s for the 200m at Castres in France and also timed 10.34s for the 100m.

Chioma Matthews set a new best of 13.50m in the triple jump and is now just 14cm shy of the club record.

Blackheath & Bromley's U20s and U17s took a step closer to securing a place in the national final of the UK Development League when they finished third in their Premier Division One match at Reading.

After three matches they are second in the table with the same number of league points as leaders Shaftesbury Barnet.

Crucially they now have a three-point cushion over third-placed Windsor.

Shannon Hylton celebrated her selection for the world youth championships by winning both the U20s 100m and 200m in times of 11.81s and 23.67s, a notable achievement considering she is still an U17.

Had she not run the 200m, the club’s fortunes would have been in safe hands as her twin sister Cheriece’s time of 24.09s in the B string would also have won the A string.

Both sisters were also members of the winning U17s 4x100m quartet along with Vivien Olatunji and Aine Hurlock, and their time of 48.28s would have won the U20s race.

Olatunji had earlier won the U17 100 and 200m races.

The Hylton sisters were not the only siblings to enjoy victories as while on the track Samantha Brown won the U20s 400m hurdles in 62.63s, her younger sister Gemma enjoyed victory in the discus with a throw of 40.17m.

More hurdles success came in the U17 age group with Bailey Stickings winning the 400m hurdles in 59.15s and Leah Everson the 300m hurdles in 47.84s.

Everson also joined Sonia Woolhouse, newly-crowned Kent 3,000m champion Niamh Bridson Hubbard and Janae Galley for victory in the 4x300m in 2m53.34s.

Will Fuller took the honours in the 800m in 1m59.97s, while in the field Yemisi Sofolarin won the discus and Kerri Davidson the triple jump.

Barring a disaster in the last match at Allianz Park on July 28, the squad should qualify for the national final but nothing is guaranteed so another strong performance is required.

Bridson Hubbard's winning time in the Kent U17 championships at Dartford was a new personal best of 10m42.4s and there was gold too for Amber Reed in the U20s race.

Also on the winning trail this week was Peter Tucker in the Orpington 10km, a multi terrain race around the High Elms area.

His winning time over an undulating course was 36m16s.

Shaun Lightman finished eighthin the Enfield league race at Allianz Park, timing 30m00.19s for the 5km walk.
