JUNIOR members of Gravesham Fencing Club delivered some top performances at the British Youth Championships (BYC) finals in Sheffield.

The finals bring together junior fencers from across the UK who qualified via regional championships.

Five Gravesham fencers qualified in seven categorises, with Cameron Prior leading the way by placing second in the U16 epee.

Other Gravesham results were: Steven McPherson fifth (U12 epee), Holly Snellin 27th (U16 epee) and 37th (U16 foil), Lucy Snellin, 27th (U14 foil) and 41st (U14 epee), Thomas Golby 32nd (U18 foil).

Elsewhere, Prior won the U17 boys’ epee competition at the Leon Paul junior series in Warwick.

Holly Snellin won a bronze medal in the U17 girls’ event, narrowly missing out on a place in the final by one point.

Lucy Snellin won silver at the U14 Kent foil, while Joe Joyner and Prior finished first and third respectively in the senior Kent epee.

Club captain Scott Greenwood csaid: “Gravesham Fencing Club members have achieved excellent results across all age groups and level of competition.

“The club prides itself on bringing young people into the sport and developing fencers to compete at regional and national level.

“This season is no exception.”
