GRAVESEND Cycling Club members have been riding in different events at home and abroad.

Kate Savage went to Scotland to ride the 81-mile Etape Caledonia, recording 4hr45m, an improvement of 31 minutes on last year.

Clive Walker has ridden two 100 mile sportifs in France, timing 6hr05m at Limousin in and 5hr40m in Brive. The Castle 100 sportif, ridden in aid of Action Medical Research, saw six Gravesend riders participating.

Mike Coulter and Tony Jacobs took part in the shorter 70-mile event with Keith Allen, Clive Walker, Andrew Webster and David Evans riding over the full 100-mile course.

Adrian Dennison, Webster, and Evans have also taken to the track at Herne Hill been riding regularly on a Saturday morning.

Steve Harrington has competed in three sprint trialthlons at Faversham (1hr30m), at Eton Dorney (1hr17m) and Hever Castle (1hr29m). At Ashford Steve Harrington and Steve Hunter competed in the full triathlon distances.

Hunter (2hr23m) was first in his age category, Steve Harrington timed 2hr37m. Hunter also competed in the Swashbuckler half Ironman and was sixth in his age group, in 5hr10m.

The 100mile evening time trial series continues at Grain with Anthony Westwood still setting the pace. Times from the latest race: Westwood 22m48s, Harrington 24m46s (a personal best time at this distance), Graham Terry 25m01s, Webster 28m05s (also a personal best), Allen 28m10s, Keith Ward 28m19s, Chris Bramley 28m37s, Mike Harrington 30m52s and Robyn Bramley 33m25s. Westwood was fastest again the previous week in 22m21s ahead of Terry 23m51s, Coulter 25m05s, Luke Harrington 25m52s, Allen 27m37s, Chris Bramley 27m45s, Evans 28m10s, Webster 28m39s and R Bramley 33m11s.

In open events Coulter and Gibson rode in Suffolk, recording 58m43s and 58m49s (a personal best for Gibson for the 25-mile course). Coulter also rode the 25-mile Chilham course in 1hr05m11s, a very windy 10 mile event at Harrietsham in 25m53s and a 50-mile event on Romney Marsh in 2hr16m20s. Gibson has also been riding open events, travelling to Wales to record 1hr01m04s for 25 miles and then to Hull to record a personal best time of 22m47s for 10 miles.

The club rides are every Sunday from the War Memorial in Cobham at 9am but there are more moderately paced rides every second Saturday starting from Cyclopark at 10am.
