Cameron Stewart starred for Charlton Athletic when they visited Welling United in Park View Road's traditional curtain raiser.

Stewart, a trialist having previously been at Ipswich Town, provided the crosses that resulted in both goals for the Addicks.

It was not all one way, however, and Welling had some opportunities of their own. Player manager Jamie Coyle admitted afterwards that they expected Charlton to have more of the pressure and had concentrated their training on getting the defensive side correct. He also resisted the opportunity to play himself so that he could run the final rule over the trialists.

Early chances went Charlton's way. Impressive trialist Cameron Stewart crossed deep, Karlan Aheaine-Grant knocked down but Chris Solly scuffed wide.

Tony Watt then intercepted a casual clearance and sent Josh Magennis away but he shot wide of the post with no great conviction.

Aheaine-Grant looped a header over and Joe Aribo fired over from outside the area before the Addicks went ahead. Stewart was the provider and Jason Pearce finished at the far post.

Good swift Welling passing split the Charlton defence and Tom Bradbrook got clear but his clipped short range cross failed to pick out Bradley Goldberg and Charlton were able to clear.

Dillon Phillips then came to Charlton's rescue when Ben Jefford's deep cross was knocked back in by David Moli and Goldberg's shot on the turn was beaten out by the legs of the Addicks' goalkeeper.

Aheaine-Grant tested Lewington with a fierce drive that the Wings' custodian did well to tip over

Magennis fired over for Charlton before they doubled their lead. Stewart was again the provider with a chipped cross and, although Chris Lewington made a great save from Patrick Bauer's first header, he was helpless with the follow up.

Multiple substitutions in the second period meant that the game became disjointed but there were still opportunities.

Frances Babalola broke down the left wing but his low driven cross was hacked off the line by Bauer.

Goldberg curled a free kick round the wall but straight into the arms of Phillips before Babalola fired wide of the near post after Alfie Pavey held up play well.

Three minutes remained when Charlton completed the scoring. Michael Fernandes set Mikhail Kennedy up, and he converted calmly.
