Cup games have been Welling United's friend and they put Hythe Town to the sword in the F.A. Trophy 1st round.

After a cagey opening ten minutes, Welling created a couple of half chances. Christian Nanetti crossed for Danny Waldren but his header was claimed comfortably by Joe Mant.

Then George Oakley cut in from the left wing and shot cleanly but too straight and Mant held on comfortably.

Nineteen minutes had passed when the deadlock was broken. Nanetti burst into the area and Frankie Sawyer, tracking back, made a striker's challenge and brought him down. Although Mant went the right way, Coombes' spot kick was too powerful and gave him no chance.

It became scrappy again until the floodgates opened on 35 minutes.

Coombes turned provider with a deep cross that Nanetti headed home via Ryan Johnson's knee.

Four minutes later Waldren made it three heading home from Sam Hatton's free kick.

Dave Cook dithered with a clearance and Coombes dispossessed him and strode away to slot beyond Mant to add a fourth.

To their credit, Hythe did not let their heads drop and pulled one back in injury time when May finished at the far post from Johnson's cross.

Both teams made changes at the break after a collision left two players prone in the final seconds of the half. Kenny Pogue replaced Frankie Sawyer for Hythe and Rian Bray came on for Welling's Rickie Hayles.

Liam King shot wide of the near post for Hythe early in the second period before Welling made it five.

Hatton slung in another great dead ball delivery, this time from a corner, and again Waldren rose highest to power a header home from close range.

Nanetti smashed well over having collected a short corner before spinning in and shooting.

Pogue then headed against the bar from Sam Adams' corner and there was an almighty scramble before Welling cleared.

He came close again shortly after when meeting a deep cross with a firm flick volley but Chris Lewington was out quickly and showed great agility to hold on.

Any hopes that Hythe had of getting back into the game when Chris Saunders received a second yellow card and was dismissed.

Trey Williams came on for his Welling debut and was into the action quickly. He got in behind the defence and pulled back to George Oakley, but he was unable to convert.

Matt Fish then crossed for Hatton but his knock back across goal just eluded Williams as he tried to get on the end of it.

Fish then had a shot saved before making it six with an unstoppable drive.

Oakley fired over before Welling made it seven when Hythe over committed. Nanetti broke away before sending Williams clear. Although Mant made a great save from his first effort, it came back out to him and he smashed home the rebound.

However, Oakley was not to be denied and he burst through in injury time, dummied Mant, and finished in style.
