Ebbsfleet United manager Jamie Day was disappointed with his side’s second-half performance as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in his first game in charge, at home to Weston-super-Mare.

Day’s team put in a disjointed performance as Ollie Watkins’ second-half strike gave the visitors victory.

Day demanded an improvement from his side, and threatened changes if they don’t deliver.

He said: “I thought we played well in the first half and created a lot of chances, we just didn’t take them.

“In the second half, the tempo slowed down and our play became predictable, so there’s a lot to work on.

“In the first half, we played pretty well and played some good stuff, but if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net, then what’s happened in the second half will happen.

“After it, a few of the players went into their shells a little bit and we hit the ball long when we didn’t need to, while being a bit slow in our play.

“We’ll look at that and put it right on the training ground.”

He added: “From what I’ve seen so far, it’s a good set of boys here, but we need to get into how I want to play quickly and, if we don’t, then obviously we need to change personnel.

“Everyone needs a chance, though, and, like I said, the first half was good but after that, we became more predictable, so we need to change that pretty quickly.”

With an important post-Christmas period in which Ebbsfleet play numerous sides around them in the table, Day stressed how important it is for the side not to get too downhearted about defeat.

“We need to bounce back quickly”, he said.

“You get beaten, so you have to dust yourself down and begin again, so that’s what we’ll look to do this week.

“We want to win in the (FA) Trophy on Tuesday and take that into the post-Christmas fixtures against some tough teams.

“We need to be positive about it, dust ourselves down and go again.”
