Dartford manager Tony Burman reserved special praise for Andy Pugh after the striker’s brace inspired a 4-1 win over Bath City on Saturday.

The Darts were a cut above their opponents and went ahead at Princes Park when Pugh latched onto a weak back pass to score on 16 minutes.

Pugh doubled his tally on 34 minutes when he volleyed home after Callum McNaughton headed down a Tom Wynter free kick.

Dartford's third was netted by Ryan Hayes, who met Mark Onyemah’s cross and buried it past Steve Phillips on the hour mark.

Bath pulled one back on 81 minutes but the home victory was sealed when McNaughton headed in a Barry Cogan corner with five minutes remaining.

“Andy Pugh is on a good vein of form at the moment,” Burman said.

“It is frustrating that he picks up and injury every now and again and it stops him from playing a number of games and scoring a number of goals.

“He is showing what a good player he is at the moment.

“He’s a good finisher. We have got to keep him fit and if we can do that then I think that he is going to be a massive asset for us.”

The win extended Dartford’s unbeaten league run to 11 games and pushed the club into a play-off spot.

Burman said: “We have put on a decent performance and the main thing for us was to put some more points on the board - at this stage that is what counts. I am pleased that we have done that.

“We said before the game that it was very important that we continue doing the things that have kept us on this run.

“I felt that we controlled the game in the second half. We played really well but the main thing was to get the three points.”

Burman also praised the atmosphere at Princes Park but was cautious of the challenges that await his side.

“It helps when there is a feel good factor and the vibes coming from the terraces have got a lot better,” he added.

“We have got to get to the end of February and see where we are then. If we are in a decent position who knows what might happen?

“There is still room for improvement and hopefully we can keep pushing in the right direction.

“But I am very pleased right now. All credit to the players for this run - now the challenge for them is to maintain it.”

On Saturday Burman’s side travel to Sutton United, who are two points and one position above Dartford in the division.
