Cray Wanderers capped off a very satisfactory 24 hours with a classy victory against an in form Whyteleafe side at Hayes Lane.

After Tuesday nights tremendous result at Bromley Civic Centre re the proposed new ground at Flamingo Park, the Wands next task was to end a three game losing run and get their promotion hopes back on track.  Whyteleafe had lost just one of their last twelve games and had put themselves back in playoff contention.

The night was all set up for a great game and the Wands got off to flying start with two goals in the first ten minutes.   Cray took the lead after seven minutes when from a corner from the right, Karl Dent’s cross was perfectly weighted towards the back post where Lea Dawson got in front of Jay Leader to steer a header past Kyle Merson to make it 1-0.

Two minutes later, Cray were celebrating again when the ball worked was worked down the right and Ben Mundele found Zak Henry who played a fine ball into the area where MacDonald instinctively stuck out a boot to turn the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Whyteleafe though showed why they have been on such a good run when first Vance Bola volley wide from six yards and then pulled a goal back in the 19th minute.  Bradley Simms picked up the ball down the right cut inside and unleashed a fine low shot from 25 yards which gave Nick Blue no chance to save high into the top left hand corner.

The visitors almost levelled when Simms dinked effort was cleared off the line by Dawson but in the 39th minute Cray restored their two goal advantage from another Dent corner which was deflected towards Dawson who from twelve yards rifled home a fine shot to cap off an excellent first half for the Wands skipper.

The second half saw chances at both ends notably when Aaron Rhule was played through for Cray but placed a shot fractionally wide of goal.  Then for Whyteleafe, Bola was denied by a brave blocked save by Blue.

Another goal was coming somewhere in the game and it came in the 76th minute for Cray when a tremendous burst of pace from substitute Brandon Scott down the right saw the winger reach the by line, made a feint and played the ball across to Junior Dadson who gleefully fired home from the edge of the six yard box to make it 4-1.

Then with the game in its second minute of stoppage time, the night was completed with an excellent individual goal from Dadson who down the left found space on the edge of the area and curled home an unstoppable shot into the bottom right corner of the net to really put the cherry on the cake.

The win put Cray back up to fifth place in the Isthmian South and at this stage in a playoff place, five points behind second placed Carshalton Athletic and with 8 games to play.
