Cray Wanderers remain unbeaten in 16 league matches and stay second in the Isthmian South table after a hard fought draw against Molesey at Walton Road.

Cray had the better of an entertaining first half and went ahead with Mitchell Nelson’s fourth goal of the season a minute before half time getting on the end of Michael Freiter’s left wing free kick.

The second half saw opportunities at both ends but Cray couldn’t put the game to bed and Molesey levelled two minutes from time when Ato Okai’s right wing corner was turned in by substitute Ronald Sobowale and despite late pressure from Cray the game finished in a 1-1 draw.

Cray started the game well but Molesey had the best early chance when Anthony Kozakis down the left set up Reis Stanislaus who shot wide when well placed.

There was a lot of pressure applied by Cray in the first half and Jerome Federico and Jay Leader came close to scoring whilst Brandon Scott’s cross was pushed away by keeper Liam Allen.

Before half time Cray almost went ahead when Federico ran down the left and as Allen came out took the ball round him but the angle was tight and his shot to the near post was put behind for a corner by Ryan David.  From the corner Mitchell Nelson was denied by a blocked save by Allen.

A minute before half time though Cray got the goal they deserved for their perseverance when Michael Freiter played a free kick out on the left into the area and Nelson stole in to steer the ball into the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The second half saw opportunities at both ends.   First for Cray Michael Power stabbed wide from Nelson’s flick on.  Then Molesey broke away and Ashby Charles set up Kozakis who was denied by a very good save by Nick Blue.

Brandon Scott saw a shot pushed round the post by Allen for a corner.  Then Molesey almost took the lead when Kozakis saw an effort cleared off the line by Lea Dawson.  Dean Carpenter then fired in a shot from 25 yards which skimmed the crossbar.

With two minutes to go, Molesey got back on level terms when from a right wing corner, Ato Okai’s ball across the box fell to substitute Ronald Sobowale who turned the ball in from close range.

Cray nearly won it late on but Dawson headed wide and twice Michael Power came close with headers but in the end it finished in a draw.

The Wands are next in action on Boxing Day when they take on Shoreham at Hayes Lane, 3pm ko.
