Cray Wanderers finish their home fixtures for the 2016-17 season on Easter Monday with a local derby against playoffs bound Greenwich Borough.  Kick off at Hayes Lane is 3pm.

The Wands would have been frustrated on Saturday as their match at Three Bridges was postponed due to vandalism at Jubilee Fields which affected the pitch.  This means Cray will more than likely have to play two games in less than 48 hours with the re-arranged game likely to be this Thursday.  They follow that up on the final day of the season with a trip to Faversham Town.

Cray will be looking to end their season with a flourish and remain eleventh in the league table following Saturday’s games.  Home form has been a problem for the Wands in 2017 with just two wins out of nine played but will hope to give Greenwich Borough a tough game in what has been a competitive and always eagerly anticipated fixture down the years.

Cray’s previous home game was last Sunday and saw them lose 1-4 at home to Hastings United in a game that at times was a lot closer than the final scoreline suggests.  Cray certainly created chances against a strong Hastings side but were unable to take them at key points of the game.  Cray also have a couple of players near the top of the scoring charts with Luke Medley on 24 goals and Danny Haynes on 22 but probably have to end the season in razor sharp form to beat the leading scorer, Corinthian Casuals, Shaun Okojie who has 30 goals.

Our opponents Greenwich Borough have had a very good first season in the Isthmian South and confirmed a playoff place a couple of weeks ago.  They are currently unbeaten in six games and are third with 91 points.  They are set to meet Corinthian Casuals in the playoffs either home or away which promises to be a very close game to call.

Gary Alexander’s side have won an impressive 14 games on their travels but have been beaten by the other four sides in the playoffs having lost at Tooting, Dorking, Corinthian Casuals and Hastings. The leading scorer is Charlie MacDonald with 26 goals and it was he who opened the scoring when the two teams met on Boxing Day at Borough.  Goals from Billy Dunn and Rob Denness for the home side were sandwiched in between with a Lee Prescott goal for Cray as Greenwich won 3-1.

This should be a fine way to end the Easter Holidays and a decent game of football.
