MICKY Collins has quit as manager of Kent League champions Erith & Belvedere after three years with the club.

Collins led the Park View Road outfit to a league and cup double this season, success which saw the Deres return to the Isthmian Division One North.

However, the departing boss told News Shopper the size of the budget for next season didn’t match his own ambitions for the club, prompting today’s decision to move on.

“To be honest the football club runs on a tight ship,” explained Collins.

“The resources made available for next season weren’t enough to have a proper go in the Ryman North.

“I just didn’t feel it was right for me as I’m a very ambitious person.”

Collins’ name has previously been linked with Bromley after current Hayes Lane boss Mark Goldberg hinted he might move on this summer.

But with Goldberg still in control of the Lillywhites, Collins was keen to play down any suggestion he was about to assume control of the Conference South side.

“Bromley have already got a very good manager in place,” said Collins.

“Mark Goldberg had a great run in the FA Cup last year and also ended the season with a trophy by winning the London Senior Cup.

“As far as I’m concerned Mark will be the manager of Bromley next season.”
