CHARLTON’S women’s team are hoping to end their season on a high against Cardiff City at Thamesmead Town’s Bayliss Avenue ground on Sunday (2pm) and are offering free entry to the match.

After a good showing this season and a mid-table finish in the Premier League National, the future is bright for the Addicks despite having missed out on an FA Women’s Super League Division Two licence.

Charlton come into their final league match of the campaign off the back of a 1-1 draw against league leaders Watford, just 10 days after losing 3-0 away to the Hornets.

Caretaker manager Stuart Weston was pleased with the character his side showed in his first game in charge of the first team.

He said: “The last time we played Watford was just after news of the Super League and I think we were a little bit flat and we conceded some sloppy goals.

“They haven’t scored against us in open play, though.

“Their goal on Wednesday was from another set piece that we were a little bit lax following in the runners.

“But I think the reaction was fantastic.

“We didn’t let it get at us, we picked ourselves up and I thought we played some lovely football when we calmed ourselves down.

“They are top of the league and they are there for a reason, they are a good side.

“It means this year we have beaten Sunderland and beaten and drawn with Watford, two of the top three sides.”
