Bromley boss Neil Smith is hoping to “come to some sort of arrangement” with triallist Blair Turgott.

The former Leyton Orient winger scored a superb free-kick in Bromley’s surprise 2-1 win over Charlton on Tuesday night.

Smith called the 22-year-old’s performance against the Addicks as “fantastic” and admitted Bromley face competition from other clubs to secure his services.

“It was a fantastic performance from Blair,” Smith told News Shopper. “He’s come in on trial and he’s been involved with the sessions.

“I think he likes what he sees with the club so hopefully we can come to some kind of arrangement.

“He’s a good player with a good attitude which is so important for us and something we’ve spoken a lot about with the group.

“I would be very surprised if there wasn’t competition because he’s a good player.”

In Bromley's second pre-season friendly, they took the lead on 14 minutes through summer signing George Porter.

Turgott then whipped a curling free-kick past Stephen Henderson to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at half time.

League One side Charlton hit back through substitute Brandon Hanlan, who volleyed home Ricky Holmes’ corner, but Russell Slade’s side were unable to find an equaliser.

Smith insisted he was delighted with the performance, but said improvement was still possible for his Bromley side.

“We’re very, very pleased with the result but also the attitude and ethic the players showed,” Smith added.

“The team shape was also impressive and we want to take into our next friendlies. A couple of young kids also got a chance and did really well so we’re really pleased all round.

“That being said, there’s a long, long way to go and we can’t get too ahead of ourselves – it was a fantastic result but we still need to work hard and try to improve.”

Smith continued: “The new signings came in to a big squad and they’ve been brilliant. They’ve all worked very hard and clearly want to be part of a winning team.

“They bring a lot of energy and experience to the team and they showed that against Charlton.

“They’ve all bought into the work ethic that we’ve got at the club right now.”
