Bromley gained a point in their penultimate away game at relegation threatened, Altrincham, on Saturday afternoon.

In an easily forgettable first half, both sides had a couple of chances but were unable to find the net, as their efforts were either blocked, off target or, in Altrincham’s case, were denied by the Bromley goalkeeper, Alan Julian.

The first chance fell to Moses Emmanuel when he tamely shot straight at the home keeper, following good work by Bradley Goldberg. Emmanuel returned the compliment, but Goldberg’s effort was blocked before Goldberg’s curling shot was just wide.

There were huge appeals from the home side for a penalty, as Michael Rankine’s run seemed to be blocked by Rob Swaine; and the Bromley captain did extremely well to get across to save a certain goal with a timely tackle as Josh Ginnelly burst into the area moments later.

As half time approached, Julian reacted brilliantly to tip around a close range effort from Jake Moult and, following the resultant corner kick, he punched away from the head of Rankine.

The home side played virtually the whole of the second period camped in the Bromley half, as they looked for a breakthrough that would have eased their relegation worries.

Altrincham thought that breakthrough had come in the 48th minute when Rankine had the ball in the net, but was rightly ruled offside by the Assistant; before Julian made a good save at the foot of the post from Simon Rickman.

Sandwiched in between, Goldberg was denied by a good stop by Tim Deasy in the home goal, after squeezing between two defenders to get his shot away.

Ginnelly fired narrowly wide, as did James Lawrie; before Julian was on hand to deny Rankine’s header as the home side continued to dominate.

As the clock ticked down, Jack Holland just beat Rankine to the ball on the edge of the six yard box, before a Lawrie penetrating cross went out for a goal kick at the far post.

However, in the final five minutes Bromley had three excellent chances to have taken all three points. Emmanuel wildly shot over the bar from a good position, before Bromley’s leading scorer fired badly wide moments later; and in the last minute his poorly placed effort went straight to Deasy when a yard either side of the goalkeeper would have given the Kentish side all three points.
