Bromley gained back to back wins for the first time since October, when they gained a somewhat fortunate victory over Kidderminster Harriers last Saturday at the Aggborough ground.

Their 1-0 success also gave them their first League double of the season, having won the return fixture at Hayes Lane in September, and at the same time plunged the bottom club further into the mire.

In a poor first half there was little to warm the fans of both sides on a bitterly cold afternoon, as both sides lacked any sharpness in the final third of the pitch.

Alan Julian did well to deny Kelvin Langmead’s header at point blank range, from James McQuilkin’s corner kick in the 16th minute.

Just past the half hour mark Bromley had their first chance of the half when Adam Cunnington’s low cross into the six yard box was cleared off Moses Emmanuel’s feet by a combination of goalkeeper, Dean Snedker and defender Tyrone Williams; and on 36 minutes Snedker made a routine save from Emmanuel’s back heal.

As the half reached its conclusion, Julian did well to save Langmead’s header from Lewis Kinsella’s free kick.

James McQuilkin was allowed to run 25 yards unchallenged in the first minute of the second half, but failed to find the target, as the hosts dominated the early stages of the resumption.

Julian again was on hand to save Keith Lowe’s goalbound header, and minutes later the goalkeeper plucked McQuilkin’s cross from the head of Harry White from underneath the bar.

Bromley, for their part, were relying on too many long balls and giving the ball away far to easily with misplaced passes.

Emmanuel wasted a good chance to put the visitors ahead on 67 minutes when he capitalised on a defensive mix up only to blaze his effort high and wide; and, five minutes later Adam Cunnington was forced wide but managed to get his shot away, but Snedker made the save.

A moment of controversy came with twelve minutes remaining when Rob Swaine appeared to trip Evan Garnett, as the substitute went around the Bromley captain, but the player took three paces after the alleged contact before dropping dramatically to the ground. The Match Official clearly saw nothing wrong and waved play on.

To rub salt into the relegation threatened home sides wound, Bromley scored the only goal of the game eight minutes later.

Ousmane Fane’s late tackle on Lee Minshull earned him a yellow card, before Joe Anderson stepped up to loop the 35-yard free kick towards the far post. The kick evaded everyone, including goalkeeper Snedker, who remained rooted to his spot thinking the ball was going wide of his right hand post, only for the ball to bounce once and nestle into the back of the net.

With time running out Kidderminster launched one last attack in an effort to salvage something from the game, but Julian was equal to Arthur Gnahoua’s snap shot as Bromley held on for another three points.
