BECKENHAM Town’s season finished with a 1-1 draw at champions Herne Bay on Saturday.

When the two sides who have lost the least amount of league games came head-to-head in the final fixture at Winch's Field, then perhaps it was not too surprising that it ended in a draw.

Becks never made the Kent League's newly crowned champions’ farewell to the division an easy passage in front of their 365 appreciative rain soaked spectators.

The conditions were appalling but it didn’t prevent both sides from trying to play open attacking football.

Herne Bay had two players sent off as Dave Soutan and Jamie Maxted both made early exits, while Becks manager Jason Huntley was ordered to watch from the stand.

The hosts got their noses in front on the hour when Byron Walker celebrated his return from suspension with a goal.

But Becks were back on terms almost immediately as leading marksman Jake Hobbs hit the target with his 29th goal of the season.
