EBBSFLEET United finished the season in disappointing fashion as they went down to a home defeat against Lincoln City on Saturday.

Looking to end the campaign strongly, Ebbsfleet started fast but Calum Willock was unable to divert Liam Enver-Marum’s cross goalwards in the opening minute.

Enver-Marum created another opportunity, this time for himself, with a low drive which was well saved in the 11th minute.

Just five minutes later the forward saw his free-kick finger-tip saved before Lincoln took the lead.

Jamie Taylor’s cross took a wicked deflection off Joe Howe’s knee and beat Fleet keeper Tom McNeil at the near post.

It wasn’t long before the Fleet were back on level terms as Enver-Marum won a penalty and Willock sent Imps keeper Joe Anyon the wrong way from 12 yards in the 23rd minute.

But Ebbsfleet were behind once again four minutes later as Peter Bore latched on to Jefferson Louis’s cross at the back post to score with the goal gaping.

Two turned to three not long after as Bore played through Taylor, who scored the second time of asking from a tight angle after McNeil saved his initial shot.

McNeil produced another great save when he blocked Josh Gowling’s header from six yards before Taylor had an opportunity to double his tally in the final moments of the first half.

But with a wide open goal, Ross Smith scrambled back and produced a brave goal line block to keep the home side in it.

The second half was a much more sombre affair, with chances for both sides few and far between them.

Louis had an opportunity to put the game beyond Fleet but a poor effort saw his header fly over from six yards after 50 minutes.

Ebbsfleet were on the back foot again as Alan Power’s curling shot was matched by McNeil.

However, with 24 minutes left the home side reduced the arrears as Ricky Shakes’ cross was met by Liam Bellamy, who left Anyon flat footed.

Liam Daish’s side almost levelled the scores in the dying moments but substitute Nathaniel Pinney’s cross grazed the top of the bar.
