HISTORICALLY Dartford have usually struggled to get the better of Boreham Wood and Saturday was no exception as the visitors denied Tony Burman’s side with an equaliser in the final minute of the final home league encounter of the regular season.

Darts’ priorities were to come through the game without injury and bookings, while defending an undefeated home run going back to mid-December.

Taking into account counter-attractions on Sky and Boreham Wood as the opposition, the fixture drew a pretty good attendance.

Darts had the better of the opening skirmishes and could have grabbed an early lead when Lee Noble was floored on the edge of the Wood penalty area, the resultant free-kick going narrowly wide.

The visitors made sporadic raids without really threatening but midway through the half Darts took the lead when in-form Tony Garrod headed past Elvijs Putnins.

This caused an almost immediate riposte from the visitors who strung together the best move of the match.

It sliced through the midfield and ended with a Graeme Montgomery shot from just inside the Dartford area, which whistled past Louis Wells’ right shoulder into the far corner of the net.

Neither side could wrest control after the interval but the introduction of Jacob Erskine swung the game Dartford's way with a goal 11 minutes from time.

The striker's appearance gave Darts that little spark which hitherto had been missing and his cheeky goal brightened up the home side’s afternoon.

A rare victory over Boreham Wood was in sight but Charlie O'Loughlin spoilt Darts’ day with a scrambled equaliser in the 89th minute.
