DARTFORD manager Tony Burman believes his side can maintain their momentum going into the play-offs and earn promotion.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Boreham Wood, the Darts chief believes going up would be a terrific achievement for his ever improving side.

He said: “The play-offs are massive and the two legs of the semi-final are going to be the most important games the club is going to play.

“If we get to the final that will be the most important game the club has played for a long, long time.

“We are desperately looking forward to them and hopefully we can keep the momentum going and get promoted.

“It is a new competition, we have finished second and unfortunately that’s only given us home advantage.

“It is a new challenge for us and although it is like cup football, we like to win competitions and hopefully we can do that.”

The Darts took the lead twice at Princes Park on Saturday before a late equaliser spoiled celebrations.

Tony Garrod put them ahead in the 22nd minute before Jacob Erskine was introduced in the second half, scoring in the 79th minute in what looked like an inspired substitution.

Having held on for so long, Burman is disappointed to have not picked up a win.

He explained: “When we scored the second goal I felt we were going to collect three points.

“The game needed a bit of a spark which is why we made all three substitutions and when we scored at that point I thought we were going to win it.

“To be fair to them they scored a decent goal from a decent set piece.”

Despite conceding late on, Dartford remain comfortable in second place in the Conference South.

The Darts have been in the play-off positions for most of the season and travel to Truro City on Saturday for their final league game.

Burman understands the players are already looking towards the crucial play-off battle and is delighted with his side’s progress this year.

He added: “It was one of those games where there was not much on it and when that happens in a football match it becomes a little bit predictable.

“I don’t think we got going very well, but once we took the lead I felt we should have kept it, but it wasn’t to be.

“We haven’t lost, which was a nice way to finish up, despite it not being ideal way I would have liked to finish the season as it would have been nice to finish at home with a win.

“Our season has been excellent, absolutely superb.”
