Bromley 0-0 Thurrock

In a poor game not helped by a very uneven pitch, the hosts dominated for long periods but never had the cutting edge in front of goal when it mattered.

The opening stages saw most of Bromley’s attacks coming down the left.

Crosses from Albert Jarrett were headed wide by Anthony Thomas and Michael Malcolm before Thurrock keeper Ross Kitteridge palmed away Ali Fuseini’s stinging 20 yard volley.

From a 26th minute corner, Tutu Henriques headed over from Malcolm’s misplaced pass before Malcolm fastened onto a ball over the top and with only Kitteridge to beat, he scuffed his shot wide.

Thurrock’s first effort on goal came on 29 minutes when Daniel Okan’s shot on the turn dipped over the bar, while Lee Boylan’s snap shot was just past the post six minutes later.

Pierre Joseph-Dubois headed over Malcolm’s cross, Thomas’s long range shot was comfortably saved by Kitteridge before the keeper denied Malcolm.

And with the last kick of the first half, Thomas’ hopeful inswinging cross was palmed away just as it looked as if it would find the top corner of the net.

The visitors were first to show after the break when Boylan shot wide following David Knight’s cross, but Bromley were soon back on the attack and Thomas scooped an effort over the bar with the keeper back-peddling.

Henriques’ effort following a corner was blocked on the line and Fuseini blasted the loose ball high and wide.

Hakeem Araba’s first touch after replacing Thomas almost produced a goal, but Kitteridge just managed to hold the ball.

Malcolm thought he had scored on 63 minutes but his effort was cancelled out by the assistant’s flag for offside.

Jarrett’s free-kick was blocked after the winger had been upended in full flight when bearing down on goal.

From the free-kick, Thurrock broke and Bromley keeper Joe Welch, who had up to this point had little to do, needed to be alert to punch the danger away.

Kitteridge made two saves from Joseph-Dubois in quick succession to keep his side in the game and again moved smartly to deny Araba before doing well to punch to safety another Jarrett free-kick.

With time running out Araba headed wide before shooting over from close range, both from Malcolm’s passes, and on 90 minutes he found the side netting from a Jarrett cross.

In injury time Kitteridge saved from Malcolm and Jarrett’s backward header lacked power and the keeper was able to parry away.

Bromley must now wait for Saturday’s visit to Dorchester Town to find out their fate in a game in which they must better or equal the results of Hampton & Richmond Borough and Havant & Waterlooville.
