CRAY Wanderers’ promotion hopes have been dealt a hammer blow after striker Leigh Bremner has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Bremner has scored 13 in the league this season, but will play no further part after it was revealed the injury he sustained in the 1-0 defeat at Hendon is more serious than first thought.

Manager Ian Jenkinson said: "Leigh Bremner will be out for four weeks with medial knee ligament damage.

“It's a big blow as he has been very important for us and he is effectively out for the season.

"We also have Aaron Day out, but that has been a long-term loss for us."

Cray host Harrow Borough on Saturday before a trip to Margate on Easter Monday and Jenkinson is aware that his team's recent results have left them in an uneasy position in the table.

He explained: "We are definitely looking over our shoulder having lost a few recently and having slipped down.

"If you look at where we are in the table, it is fair to say we are in a precarious position.

"The table is very tight and if we slip up we could be punished, so it is important to keep on track.

"Harrow know how to play football and at times this season have shown how difficult opponents they can be.

"We just need to stay on task."

Despite some disappointing recent results, the Wands are still very much part of the promotion race in the Isthmian Premier League.

They currently occupy the last play-off place and have a game in hand over sixth-placed Hendon.

And Jenkinson is confident his team can return to winning ways over the Easter period.

He said: “The preparation for both games has been going well, we have training tomorrow and the boys are fighting fit.

"We feel we are good enough to beat anyone in this league and it is important that we take that mentality into these games.

"If you had asked me at the start of the season, I would have taken this position, but I do feel we could be a lot more points ahead based on some of the performances where we did not exactly get what we deserved.

"Apart from that, it has been a positive campaign."
