KENT Exiles’ senior and junior teams both took part in their final pre-season games on Sunday before the big kick-off.

The junior team, which is for players aged 16 to 19, hosted the Hampshire Thrashers in a controlled scrimmage, which gave both sides a chance to try their plays and formations.

This was followed by a game which the Exiles dominated and ran out 24-0 winners, with touchdowns from GB International Lanre Agbaje, Ryan Nestor (2) and rookie Kay Twum sealing victory.

The senior team hosted the division two Peterborough Saxons, and following their game against the Premiership Olympians two weeks ago, used this match to give their new players some valuable game time, as well as an opportunity to bed in some new plays.

Even so, the 46-0 loss was a very disappointing performance and not the ideal way to go into the first game at Hampshire.

Exiles director of coaching Tony Bainbridge said: “It was great to get both squads in action today and the junior team result was very encouraging for their season, even though they were short on players today.

“The senior result was a disappointment, but pre-season is for ironing out these wrinkles and understanding what your players can do and we certainly learnt a lot from this performance.”
