PLAYER-BOSS Jamie Day has set a weekend deadline for players to make up their minds if they want to represent Welling United this season.

Club skipper Jack Parkinson (Stevenage and Southend) and striker Loick Pires (Crewe Alexandra) have both taken part in trials with Football League clubs this week and could potentially move into the full-time game.

Despite misleading reports elsewhere claiming the deal was already dead, a potential move for Parkinson to Stevenage is still on the cards - but only if the player can agree personal terms with the newly-promoted League One side.

And Pires is set to play again for League Two Crewe tonight before finding out if he has won a contract at Gresty Road.

Day says he would be happy to see both players make the step up but added he was only willing to be helpful up to a certain point with the Conference South kick off fast approaching on August 13.

He told News Shopper: “We’ve agreed a fee with Stevenage for Jack but Jack needs to agree terms and he hasn’t done so yet.

“If it isn’t done by tomorrow then as far as I’m concerned we will carry on as normal for the rest of the season with Jack as our captain.

“Loick has another game for Crewe this evening and I’m guessing they will tell him afterwards either way if they are or aren’t interested.

“If they are then we will begin negotiations with Crewe. If they aren’t then Loick will be back with us tomorrow and again it is business as usual.

“There will be no more trials for our players at Football League clubs after this weekend.

“With the size of club we are, we give players who have been released another chance.

“We are happy to progress them and earn some money for the club if the opportunity arises for that to happen.”
