EBBSFLEET manager Liam Daish was content with his team’s 1-1 draw at Park View Road on Tuesday night.

The Fleet went ahead early but were forced to settle for a point against their promotion-chasing rivals, a result which keeps them in the play-off places.

Daish said: “It was a hard-fought game and if I’m greedy, I’d say I wanted all three points.

“Going ahead early was a good boost for us and overall the lads deserved a point, possibly more.

“But it is a good point away from home against a side around us and one who had a great result at Eastleigh on Saturday.”

Daish added: “We played it like it was a derby.

“Overall I thought it was a competitive game played in the right spirit.

“We were honest, we ran hard and we defended better than we have done of late and with a bit of luck and quality in the final third we could’ve won it.

“Remember we’ve taken four points off Welling this season and if somebody would’ve offered me that at the start of the season, I would’ve taken it.”

Ebbsfleet moved into third place in the Conference South after the result and have just eight matches remaining in their push for promotion.

Daish said: “There are still a lot of points to be played for and a lot of twists and turns yet.

“There are a lot of good sides around us who want play-off spots as well, so we’ve got to keep on the ball and keep the momentum going.

“We’re up there on merit.

“It has been a tough year and there are still eight games to go, so that is a few points to play for.

“We’ve got a home game now against Bishop’s Stortford where we need to get three points because that makes this point even bigger.”

Braintree currently lead the division and are seven points ahead of Ebbsfleet with a game in hand.

And Daish admitted it would be hard to dislodge them from the top with so few matches left.

The Ebbsfleet boss added: “It’s theirs to lose but you never know.

“We’re looking for three points on Saturday and we’ll fight right to the end until its mathematically impossible.”
