EBBSFLEET United were frustrated in their attempts to get back to winning ways on Saturday after throwing away a two-goal lead against Boreham Wood on a cold afternoon at Stonebridge Road.

Having been 2-0 up at half-time, the hosts let the advantage slip and were punished by two quick-fire goals in a poor second-half display as Boreham Wood fought back to rescue a point.

Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish made three changes to the XI which lost 3-0 to Woking in midweek, bringing Dean Pooley, Conor Okus and Jacob Erskine in to replace Gareth Williams, Ricky Shakes and the injured Clint Easton.

Boreham Wood fielded a 4-4-2 formation, with powerful striker Ola Sogbanmu the focus of their attack.

The game had a quiet start with neither side able to impose themselves until Ebbsfleet took the lead with the first chance of the game on eight minutes.

A right-wing cross from Joe Howe found Okus inside the area, whose angled shot was heading wide until Erskine stuck out a shin to divert it home from six yards.

This gave the hosts a confidence boost and they doubled their lead ten minutes later.

A looping Ram Marwa cross was punched clear by Boreham Wood keeper Wes Foderingham but only as far as Tom Phipp on the edge of the area, who showed great technique to volley into an empty net.

Ashley Carew then fired a free-kick just over the bar as Ebbsfleet looked to extend their advantage.

However, the final chance of the half fell to Boreham Wood, as Sogbanmu managed to tee up Gareth Risbridger, but Ebbsfleet keeper Preston Edwards brilliantly saved his six-yard shot.

The second half was much more even, with a deflected Phipp drive the closest both teams came to scoring early on.

An improved performance from Boreham Wood meant they pulled a goal back midway through the half when a Mario Noto free-kick deflected off the wall and flew into the air.

As the ball dropped, Sogbanmu managed to force it over the line from close range.

The visitors were level two minutes later when a Noto corner caused havoc in the Ebbsfleet area and, after a goalmouth scramble, Mike Cestor fired home.

Noto had the last real chance of the game when he lead a breakaway downfield but fired just over the bar from the edge of the area as both teams had to settle for a draw.
