WELLING player-boss Jamie Day paid tribute to his players after beating rivals Bromley 3-1 last night at Park View Road.

After the previous game was abandoned, Day believes his side deserved the victory and is looking to stake a claim in the play-offs.

He said: “I thought we played quite well.

“We deserved the three points from the previous match and it's obviously nice to win and put a bit of pressure on the teams around us in the league.”

After a first half stalemate, the home side broke the deadlock just 90 seconds into the second period through Lee Clarke.

Day said: "It's nice when you score straight after half-time because it sets the tone for the second half and that's what we did - we carried on and got two more.

"We just needed to be a bit more patient, have a lot more quality on the ball and decision making."

The Wings scored their second after a fantastic free-kick from Louis Fazakerley, which seemed to miss everyone in the box before beating Bromley keeper Craig Holloway.

Andy Pugh, who worked tirelessly up front, grabbed a deserved third and his 11th of the season with a clinical finish after good work from Loick Pires and Luis Cumbers.

"I'm glad for Andy, it's a little bit of weight off his shoulders," added Day.

"It's nice for him to score and nice for us as a team to have three goals."

Welling are currently fifth, occupying the final play-off position and if they were to go up, it would be a huge achievement according to Day.

"I'd like to think we've got a chance of getting into the play-offs," he said.

"We've got to get some points from the next two games and the next six games will determine whether we're in the play-offs or not.

"If we can pick up some wins and draws in that run of games, then I think we have a good chance.

"I want to go up and obviously the club would want to go up but financially I don't know if we'd be able to compete."

Day also revealed the transfer embargo on the club has still not yet been lifted and admits it may be tough to add players before the transfer window shuts.

"As far as I know, I think the club solicitors are chasing the league to find why hasn't been lifted," said Day.

"By the time it gets lifted, the transfer window will be close but the boys we've had here so far have done remarkable and I just hope we keep everyone injury-free and the season doesn't catch up on us.

"If it does get lifted, then obviously it would be nice to bring in a couple of loan players in, so we'll see."
